O Spine Founder and Neurosurgeon

I founded O Spine in 2022 because I recognised the need for patients, as well as general practitioners and specialists, to have access to highly specialised spinal physiotherapy and allied health care.We started O Spine not just for my own patients, but also my colleagues patients and the community at large.

One of the main reasons for starting O Spine, was how often patients would see a physiotherapist, chiropractor or osteopath and end up not having an accurate diagnosis and then go on to fail treatment. Alternatively, they would receive treatment that was just wrong for their condition.

There are a lot of good physiotherapists and allied health professionals out there and we really want to support those relationships wherever possible. But for those who are looking for an option to treat their back pain, neck pain, sciatica or any other spinal condition, O Spine is there to be your partner in the recovery journey. Whether you are recovering from surgery or trying to rehabilitate without the need for surgery, at O Spine we are dedicated to spinal health.

O spine is built on four pillars

Pillar One

The first is diagnostics. O Spine puts diagnostics at the front and centre of your care. Without the right diagnosis, you probably won’t get the right treatment. Our physiotherapists screen all patients for conditions of concern. Then they focus on ascertaining the correct diagnosis to tailor treatment for the patient using O Spines proprietary assessment and treatment algorithms. When we need to, we use the right diagnostic tools, such as imaging, to better understand your condition.

Pillar Two

O Spine physiotherapists are highly trained and experienced. They specialise in spinal conditions, whether it’s the back or neck. Ongoing education is an important requirement for all O Spine team members. For patient who are recovering from surgery, its good know that the physiotherapists have all visited the operating theatre to see me do the operations for the conditions they treat. They understand what's involved so they can deliver you the best post operative care that is also safe.

Pillar Three

We leverage cutting edge technology to be able to measure how people recover. We compare their preoperative and postoperative measurements using technology that was originally designed for high performance athletes. But it is a valuable tool to assess patients strength and range of movement at the start of treatment and at its conclusion. This provides clear understand of the efficacy of the treatment provided and also contributes to research to develop more effective therapies in the future.

Pillar Four

And finally, we want to be a bridge between allied health professionals, their GPs and specialists to make sure everyone that is treating the patient is on the same page. Too often we see things that are fractured, people not getting the right treatment or the results not being communicated. At O Spine we have regular complex case conferences involving the whole team, which brings together the collective knowledge and experience of over 50 years of clinical practice to ensure the best possible care for our patients.. We make sure that the difficult cases are getting the attention they need and this also contributes to our physiotherapists high level of experience and ongoing training.
In 2018 Professor Owler was recognised for his work by being made a Member of the Order of Australia, General Division, for significant service to medicine through the leadership and administration of professional medical organisations, and to education.
